After El Calafate and Torres Del Paine, we rented a car, the most amazing little Fiat which took rock roads like a champ, and drove the famous Rt 40 to El Chalten, a more recently discovered outpost for mountain adventures. While the mountains arent high here compared to Peru, for example, they are so mighty in their beauty and mix of colors. We enjoyed a hike up to see the back of the Huemel Glacier and Lake of the Desert. El Chalten is a very small, active traveler town but we find a great respite at Destino complete with a lovely xmas tree. K, S and Aunt K had a scenic horseback ride overlooking the back of Fitzroy glacier. What a spot. We also caught France overpowering England in the world cup quarter finals.
